I've had the opportunity to operate these training simulators. They are great tools for novice equipment operators or those who want to improve their skills without having to tie down a piece of equipment or burn fuel.
Obviously nothing will replace time in the seat, but utilizing technology such as this could really help contractors and their search for employees. As one Cat employee discussed with me, some people are using these devises as screening tools. They can quickly tell if a potential employee has the skill set to operate equipment on this simulator and can reduce the need for trial and error by having to place a new employee in actual equipment and then finding out they cannot operate it or learn how to.
